What to expect in an Abundant Yoga Class
all classes are suitable for those who have done some yoga before but everyone is welcome. Beginners are encouraged to join in and learn the basics of each yoga asana.
The gentle Vinyasa practice combines movement with breath to flow into the postures. The connection with the breath is the most important element of Vinyasa style yoga - thats what makes it yoga and not just stretching.
I love to see students modify the movement and poses to suit their physical limitations and I offer variations for different levels. From the basic foundation poses to a few playful challenges, this class offers something for everyone.
I will guide you through each posture, demonstrating the body position and explaining alignment for safety and comfort. Each student experiences the posture differently depending on fitness and body type, so modifications are always encouraged to enhance the practice.
Each class commences with pranayama (breath focus), moves through the warm up flows to standing postures. Here we build up strength, balance and energy in the body, moving with the breath to deepen the experience. The floor poses follow to help buildflexibility and tone and lead to the relaxation time at the end of each class.
Each class allows you to move at your own pace, rest poses are explained and are welcome to be used at any time during the class. With different levels of students practising at the same time, it is important to stay aware of your limitations. Rest when needed, Yoga is not competitive with other students. The only one to compete with is your own inner critic.
As a more mature yogi, I teach only those asana that I know and can demonstrate with confidence. At times I may play the edge for myself and my students but I always keep safety at the forefront of my yoga. You will not find too many headstands or full backbends in my Vinyasa class!
I love to feel a sense of community and connection in my yoga classes. Like-minded souls sharing time, space and experience. The asanas are just a small part of that, to help bring us together and enjoy whatever Yoga means for each person.
RESTORATIVE YOGA CLASS:
Restorative Yoga is open and welcoming to all as the postures are done at floor level, using the props as support for the body. Once the posture is set up with the bolster or block in place all you need do is breathe and relax. Various options and poses are explored during this session with the focus being to allow the physical body to releaseall tensions and tightness, and let the props do the work.
Restorative Yoga is a form of yoga that seeks to achieve physical, mental and emotionalrelaxation. The use of props makes it easy to maintain balance, ease and comfort within the posture.
I love to call Restorative Yoga "the Quiet Achiever" of Yoga. Passive but powerful poses that enrich and nurture a stressed, anxious soul.
Restorative yoga is to open not stretch, be passive in stillness and enjoy the silence.
What is Restorative Yoga?
the most accessible form of yoga being at floor level or on a chair
the props (bolster, blanket, block) hold the posture once set up
no physical strength or exertion required
practising stillness or gentle movement
slow paced and suitable for every level
a powerful but passive form of yoga to provide essential healing to the nervous system
aids in the relief of stress and busy-ness
promotes connection with the body and breath
simply ...... Restorative.
Restorative Yoga is always a popular class as everyone can participate and enjoy the benefits to Relax, Reset and Restore.
